Over the weekend I was in Silverlake and had a chance to check out Siete Mares on Sunset blvd. It's on the sunset junction, probably the coolest part of LA in the history of the city(just ask someone who lives there, they'll tell you they are cooler than you).
I dont remember what I ordered exactly because I may have had one too many cold ones in me at the time but I did wake up the next morning with pictures. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I lost my camera and what the person who found it would think. They'd probably think "holy crap this guy is obsessed with tacos" or maybe they would think "taking pictures of tacos? why didn't I think of that?"

Siete Mares is an interesting establishment. They have a restaurant as well as a taco stand and presumably they serve the same kind of food at both. I assume the menu inside the restaurant to be a little more extensive and also serve cocktails but I could be wrong. I've only been to the outdoor hut.
I remember the fish taco being absolute heaven. Crisp fish on top of soft corn tortillas and a special red sauce as well as a light cream sauce topped with cabbage. It was enormous and for two bucks each quite the deal. Deliciouso!

I need to get back there asap to try the shrimp taco and some more fish tacos.
The rating below may or may not be affected by the amount of adult beverages in this taco reporter at the time.
Siete Mares is at 3131 W. Sunset Blvd. Fish tacos $2 |

But you are obsessed with tacos, right? LOL!

All those beers did not lie, best fish taco ever. Beware - stay away from the salmon taco, which is no good.
And yes you are correct - us eastsiders are cooler than you vanilla westsiders. Take that!

kirk,,
yes of course haha :)

I used to go to this place quite a bit. Even tried the one in Whittier. If you really like these fish tacos, you need to haul your ass out to the El Oasis fish market on passons and whittier in Pico Rivera. It's right off the 605*. It's so much better, you won't believe it. I can't even eat at Siete Mares anymore. Used to love sitting there on weekend mornings, but now all I see is too much batter, not enough fish. Word.
* South side of Whittier Blvd in a strip mall. West of the 605, east of Rosemead: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=74.036014,97.910156&q=el+oasis,+pico+rivera,+ca&latlng=33983056,-118095833,1376631024257505344

I still dream about the Siete Mares fish tacos. I used to eat them practically every day when I lived in LA. My mouth is watering right now.
-
I work within walking distance of here. Siete Mares (7 Seas) is great fish taco, but pass on the ceviche. It was drowning in fluid and tasted kind of gross.
-
Its terrible. I ordered fish there and it was wet and cold on the inside, but somehow I convinced myself it was supposed to be like that. I went to give it another shot so I spent $7 or something on a scallop plate and they were over-breaded and burned.

My recollection is that the Shrimp Burritos are huge, greasy and delicious. After that the food here just gets greasier and smaller. For this type of seafood feast, I dream of Tacos Estilo Ruben across from the Rosarita Beach hotel. Short of that? Senor Fish has it goin' on. Maybe Rubios for that emergency Lobster Burrito. I will also posit the humble and ubipquitous delight of the Del Taco Crispy fish taco, which I disucss at blogspot.lafoodcrazy.com

Ah,to eat at El 7 Mares for the first time again...The best fish tacos in town. The calamari tacos can be eaten to mix it up a bit. The sit-down restaurant is a waste of $.
-
I remember the first time I ate the fish tacos at Siete Mares. It was like the heavens opened and a glorius vision of the future broke forth before my eyes. Whenever I am near, it becons me. I also like the guacamole, which they usually make fresh after ordering.

I like the ceviche. It comes with about 5 tostada shells. Slap on the lime and tapatio and you have a great hot evening meal.
-
The Fish Tacos are divine but the ceviche is gross. Too much "seafood water" yech...But come for the Fish Tacos. Many of them.

this is one of my favorite joints in the city. not only are the fish tacos good, but the standard carne asada and pollo are as well. i've even ordered ceviche at the stand outside and wasn't disappointed. the inside is a much different menu actually. its been a while - but from what i remember they only offer seafood. its more expensive too. but then, from what i recall, they have like fish and lobster platters and stuff - a lot more formal (i mean compared to the stand outside). i can't remember what the bar is like, or if they have one. damn - that was a long time ago. anyway - the stand outside is excellent.
